Stylized as a carved wood tiki statue come to life, our spear wielding Hawaiian war god Ku dominates his native volcanic landscape, impervious to the extreme heat of Kilauea’s lava. With a full name of Ku-ka’ili-moku, he is the “land snatcher” or “island eater” and is closely associated with the reign of King Kamehameha I, unifier of the Hawaiian Islands. In our design, Ku is portrayed in the highly expressionistic Kona style, exemplified by his figure-8 shaped mouth, distended eyes, and powerful head crest.
